Yule Weekend in Ouray, Colorado- Festive fun for all!

tree2-1.jpgCelebrated for generations, the Yule Night marks several current traditions celebrated during the winter months. Originally known as the longest night of the year, the traditional lighting of the Yule log was begun to light the night sky. Now, we light the Christmas tree, and decorate our shop windows to keep winters dark and long nights aglow.

December 5th and 6th, 2015, celebrate the season with Ourays own unique version of Yule Fest, as part of the month long Winterfest list of events.

gingerbreadhouse-2.jpgSaturday, December 5, Yule Day begins with a sidewalk sale on Main Street in Ouray. From fabulous gift baskets filled with specialty items for the kitchen at Kristopher’s Culinaire, gourmet chocolates from Mouse’s Chocolates, a variety of Colorado made crafts and clothing at the Wildflower Boutique, or hand blown ornaments from Ouray Glassworks, just to name a few, the shops in Ouray provide a plethora of original and beautiful gift ideas.  As you wander up and down Main Street to peruse the array of holiday finds, keep your eyes peeled for Santa. Rumor has it he will be doing some shopping of his own before the parade in the evening.

winterfest-3.jpgTake a break on Saturday from shopping to create the perfect holiday family memory! Take the whole family to the Ridgway Weehawken Center to decorate your own gingerbread house, sponsored by Weehawken and Voyager.  There will be two Gingerbread Workshops, one in the morning from 10:00am until noon, and the second from2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Families are asked to register early at 970-318-0150, or www.weehawkenarts.org.

The parade line-up begins at 5:45 pm at 9th Avenue, and will travel up Main Street, to the Ouray Elks Lodge to drop off Santa and Mrs. Claus, where they will relax with a delicious chili dinner, milk and cookies, before visiting with children of all ages.

Finally, celebrate the holiday season with a concert at the Ouray County 4-H Event Center on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 7:00 pm.  The Ouray County Chorus will be performing a Celtic Christmas Concert from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Sing along with these talented local performers in the true holiday spirit.
