For over twenty years now, Ouray has celebrated the natural beauty of the Uncompahgre Gorge with a man-made ice park - the biggest in the country! where else can one experience the sport of ice climbing on such an epic scale, while at the same time less than a mile from town?
This year marks the 21 Annual Ouray Ice festival. The park itself is free, and maintained by a group of volunteers whose passion for the sport is contagious. The Ice Festival serves to raise much needed funds for the maintenance and growth of the ouray Ice Park.

Any day in Ouray County is one to remember. The beauty of this tiny town, nestled at the base of the Uncompahgres is breathtaking. The fresh mountain air is crisp and clean in the winter months, and soaking in the all natural mineral hot springs even more magical when the air is filled with steam as giant flakes of snow land on the water all around.

It's Winter in Ouray, and the Ice is Calling!

Posted by Maria Ziemba on Mon, Dec 07, 2015 @10:56 AM
The Ouray Ice Park has announced a tentative opening date for the Ice Park this year! Weather permitting, the park should be open on December 18, 2016. Of course, just because the Ice Park isn't open yet, doesn't mean there has not been a flurry of activity out there. The day before Thanksgiving, the ice farmer crew finished mounting  the 5,000 pound elite mixed climbing competition tower to the rim of the gorge above Aphrodite.
The weather has been spectacular the past couple of weeks, a little bit of snow, a lot of sunshine, and clear, cold nights to help firm up the ice. So, if you haven't already started preparing your gear for the season, the time is at hand!

Santa Delivers in Ouray!

Posted by Maria Ziemba on Fri, Dec 04, 2015 @12:03 PM

The
Ouray Elks Lodge  works all year, holding special events, BBQ's and meetings in order to raise money for the community. The funds these hardy volunteers raise are used to help pay medical expenses for some, scholarships to deserving students, and FUN! Perhaps one of the most touching events is when Santa comes to town. Elk members hold a special potluck dinner a week or so before Christmas, to help out Santa and his elves by stuffing dozens upon dozens of stockings. On Christmas Eve, several members of the club offer their services even further to St. Nick by becoming honorary elves for the evening, driving him to and fro, across Ouray County in whatever weather, to help him deliver gifts and good cheer.
