Events in Ouray and Ridgway this January

From Ice Climbing to Hot Spring Soaking, Ouray County is the place to be this January!

The Beginning of the year is always a spectacular experience in Ouray. Promptly at the stroke of midnight, the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department ring in the New Year with fireworks streaming over the town, lights and colors reflect off the new fallen snow and the explosions echo across the valley in splendid reverberations. If you listen carefully, you can hear avalanches falling in the high country following each BOOM.
Shortly after locals and visitors have had time to recover from the celebrations and settle in for winter, the Ouray Ice Park welcomes athletes from across the globe to compete in the Annual Ouray Ice Festival. Boasting new and exciting equipment and larger cash prizes, this is sure to be a Festival to remember!
Things quiet down for the remainder of the month, a perfect time to enjoy the serene beauty of the Western Slope; soak in the mineral hot springs, take in a movie or show at the Wright Opera House, dance a Saturday night away to live music, or relax in your room, watching movies and debating over whether to dine out or bring dinner back here to snack on between visits to the tubs.

Come climb at the beautiful indoor climbing wall in Ridgway! We are open to the public most Tuesdays and Thursdays in October through April from 6:30-9PM. We close on weeks school is NOT in session. Call before if you aren't sure we are open. $3 for students/kids and $5 for adults. Proceeds benefit the Ridgway/Ouray MS/HS climbing teams. No experience or gear necessary; we can help you!

Ouray Elks annual Hoop Shoot. A national basketball free throw contest open to all Ouray County children ages 8 - 13 (as of April 1, 2013). No entry fee. Children will shoot 25 free throws each, competing in three different age categories. There are categories for both boys and girls. Parents must bring a copy of each child's birth certificate, no exceptions.
