The Ouray County 2013 Race Series is About to Begin!
Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation Introduces a New Race to the 2013 Race Series in the San Juans.
Every year, marathon runners nationwide participate in at least one of the magnificent courses offered in The Mt. Sneffels Race Series, and this year, there is one more to watm you up for the season!
A non-profit organization working with Ouray County Youth since 1992, The Mt Sneffels Education foundation provides academic artisitic and cultural projects for the youth of Ouray and Ridgway. trips to the Natural History Museum in Denver, Choral workshops and books for the Summer reading Program are just a tiny sample of the many projects sponsored by the foundation, living up to its mission statement: "To involve the Ouray County Comminity in developing resources to enrich our students lives and to broaden their educational experiences."
Of course, support for the varied projects for youth can be pricey, and it is through fundraising events that the bulk of this money is made. One of the most successful events sponsored by Mt Sneffels Education Foundation is the Mt Sneffels Marathon and Half Marathon in August. This year marks the second year that Mr. John Ferguson, President of the foundation has organnised an entire Race Series, adding a seventh race to the schedule, much to the excitement of community members as well as athletes eager to break in their new running shoes on the trails of the San Juans.
By competing in all seven races, or six races and volunteering for one, participants receive a special finisher award. Not only is this recognition for supreme athletecism, but also for the contribution to Ouray Counties education programs.
