Halloween Weekend offers Hauntingly Good Times in Ouray October, 2013
From masquerades to zany films, and haunted houses, it's going to be a howling good time in Ouray this Halloween!
Once again, Halloween is on a week day, which makes things a bit more exciting. Now there is a whole WEEK to celebrate!
French maids and skeletons will be in attendance as revelers choose the perfect location for a evening of entertainment. The haunted history of Ouray comes to life in two of the most spectacular historic venues on the Western Slope.
Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:00 pm to Midnight: Annual Halloween Ball at the Beaumont Hotel
Built in the 1800's as the first luxury hotel in Ouray, The Beaumont played host to a variety of notable historic icons. In the 1960's, the hotel was boarded up for over thirty years. The reasons for its closure vary depending on who you ask, which is a decadent feast for the imagination.
Today, the property has been restored to its former grandeur; a perfect place to walk into history and enjoy the perfect Halloween Ball. With a live Deejay, psychics and costume contest, the annual Halloween Ball is ideal for an evening of grown up fun.
Entry is $5.00 per person, adults 21 and over only, and costumes are required.
Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 9:30 pm to midnight: The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Wright Opera House
There is something charming and somehow nostalgic in the continuing popularity of this 1975 cult classic, written by Richard O'Brien, who also happens to play the character Riff Raff in the film.
With live local actors performing on stage in front of the screen, the Rocky Horror is an experience. Follow Brad and Janet on a crazy, scary, and often ridiculous adventure as the try to escape the clutches of the questionably dressed mad scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter.
Dance to the Time Warp, and don't forget your props! You will be singing alonng and shouting out the responses in no time. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a truly interactive film. You can't rent this one and enjoy it at home, it must be experienced with the energy and enthusiasm of a crowd. After the show, stay on at the Wright to finish of the night dancing and reliving the movie with friends old and new.
The show starts at 10:00pm, but doors open at 9:30pm. Admission is $15.00 per person, or $25.00 for couples. This film does contain adult content, and is not reccomended for children, or those easily offended.
Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm: The Ouray Elks Lodge Presents the Annual Haunted House
Happy Halloween! October 31 at 7500 feet can be a little bit chilly for Trick Or Treaters, so what better way to warm up than to take a trip through the Elks haunted House.
The Elks Lodge has been a community gathering spot for decades, and this year is no different. each year, the members of the Lodge create a new and exciting theme for kids of all ages to explore and enjoy. This year, let the actors and artists of Ouray take you and your little ones on a Journey into the world of the Hobbit.
Wizards, trolls and hobbits come to life. Not too scary for the kids, but definitely with a fun Halloween feel, dinner and the tour are only $3.00 per person, or $10.00 for a family of four. Celebrate Halloween and stay warm at the same time!

Since opening their doors just a few years ago, O'Briens Pub & Grill has quickly become the local hang out and a haven for ice climbers and atheletes, offering good food at reasonable prices and an after hours bar often featuring live music performed by local artists.
Halloween in particular is a great time to experience the Pub. Once the kids have had their Trick or Treating fun, and are safely in bed with the babysitter watching over them, get that costume out and get yourself to a night of scary fun and dancing o the musical mixing of DJ Sunday. Crowds of fairy princesses and gory goblins join together on the dance floor in expectation of the best costume prizes.
