The Ouray County Performing Arts Guild (OCPAG), is a non-profit organisation dedicated to obtaining presentations and performers of the highest caliber in the performing arts for the enjoyment of Ouray County’s residents and visitors. From concerts to classes, Ouray County benefits greatly from the tireless efforts of this organisation to bring color and culture to our little corner of the world.
Outdoing themselves yet again, OCPAG is proud to bring the Jordan Carls Quartet for an intimate Jazz Cabaret at the Wright Opera House at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22.
Otherwise known as House Blend, the faculty band of Precedence Music Academy in Montrose, Colorado, the Jordan Carls Quartet is comprised of four talented performers dedicated to their love of music and learning. Featuring Lane Anderson on trumpet, Gregory Davidson on vocals, Jordan Carls on keyboard and Richard Hansen on bass, this fabulous Montrose-based jazz quartet plays originals and modern takes on great standards of the past, with arrangements designed to highlight Davidson’s amazing voice.
The combined talents of this quartet span a lifetime of individual achievements for each member as well. Prior to returning to their home town, each has travelled and performed with a number of Grammy winning performers, garnering a wealth of experience which they joyously share with everyone they meet.
Jordan Carls has been performing professionally since he was an early teen. His passion for music transcended the norm, pushing him ever further in the pursuit of the beauty of sound. After recieving his degree in Music from the University of Denver and performing accross the US and Europe with an almost endless list of well known artists, the song of Southwest Colorado eventually called him home to Montrose, where he founded the Precedence Music Academy. Comprised of a group of accomplished performers as well as educators, the school offers classes in nearly all genres of music (classical, pop, country, jazz, blues, folk, etc).
After recieving his BA in music at Northern Colorado University, Lane Anderson moved to New York, and spent 25 years in teaching in private schools and touring with London Opera Company in addition to working as a freelance musician. Eventually, the mountains called him home as well, and he now teaches at Pope John Paul II School, Colorado West Christian School, and Precedence Music Academy in addition to performing throughout Colorado.
Gregory Davidson also left the seemingly small world of Colorado for New York, where he worked for 30 years, singing, performing and teaching at the Metropolitan Opera Company. As with his current fellow quartet members, the music of Southwest Colorado eventually brought him home to share his talent in the beauty of the mountains.
Richard Hansen is almost an anomaly in this group of lifelong musicians. Before dedicating his life to music about ten years ago, Hansen had given himself to the business world. As with his co-performers, however, the power of music was too strong. Now his dedication is first to sharing his infinite talent and knowledge with hungry ears and minds in Southwest Colorado.
With this much talent and dedication in one room, Ouray is excited to experience an Intimate Jazz Quartet at the historic Wright Opera House. In the tradition of a Cabaret Performance, seating for this event will be at tables and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are just $15 per person, and are available online and at the door – if we don’t sell out in advance!
As always, The Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs invites you to make a weekend out of it. Come stay with us, and relax in the mineral hot springs, explore the winter wonderland of Ouray, and enjoy the many dining and shopping options in our beautiful town!
