The Wright Opera House Welcomes you to enjoy the newest performance of the Ouray County PlayersA non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, presentation and production of the arts in Ouray County, with special emphasis on the dramatic arts, the Ouray County Players have been bringing live radio performances to the Wright Opera House.
But what is a live radio performance? Imagine if you will, listening to a story unfold on the radio. The drama unfolds with the power of the actor’s voices as they interact while reading the script. Now, add actors. Dressed in black, and interacting with one another as they read. It is almost like a shadow play, but much more entertaining.
The Bishop’s Wife was originally adapted to the silver screen in the 1940’s, starring Cary Grant, David Niven, and Loretta Young. Similar to Jimmy Stewart in It’s a Wonderful Life, our hero, Bishop Henry Brougham is facing financial ruin as he tries to raise money for a new cathedral. He beseeches heaven for help, and immediately is met with Dudley. A handsome man who claims to be an angel, and much to Henry’s dismay, begins to immediately ingratiate himself to everyone…including his pretty young wife.
As with any great intervention, Dudley is indeed here to do more than help build a new cathedral, and sometimes, things need to look more broken in order to fix what is truly wrong.
There will be two performances at the Wright Opera House this December, Saturday, December 3, at 7:30 pm, and on Sunday, December 4, at 2:00 pm. Admission is $10.00 per person.
The Bishop’s Wife is a wonderful story sure to put you in the Holiday Spirit! Don’t miss this one!
