Perhaps it is just nostalgia, but there is something about a County Fair and rodeo that puts a smile on my face.
Wandering from building to building at the fairgrounds, checking out livestock lovingly raised by kids in the county, the smell of hay and horses, candied apples and cowboys......The competitions are fun to watch. Everything from disciplined equine work, to the loud and rowdy tractor pull. Of course, you can't forget the amazing food or the arts and crafts show!
Combine the Fair with the Annual Rodeo, and double the fun! From a stick horse race to bull riding, barrel racing and the coronation of this years Rodeo Royalty, the Ouray County Ranch Rodeo promises to deliver a taste of the Old West with a little modern flavor to boot! I must admit, I am somewhat curious about this "Goat Joring", which is a new event in 2016, and the mutton races are always great fun, not to mention the antics of the Rodeo Clowns!
Then of course, we can't forget the Firemans Dance and the Labor Day Parade. When Ouray County celebrates its Ranching History, there is no holding back!
