Ouray Colorado Vacation Guide and Trip Planning Information for SW Colorado
Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter, the majesty of the San Juan Mountains is Second to None!
When the last of the snow has melted from the highest peaks, the rivers run high, and the reds blues and yellows of a world of flowers create a rainbow accross the land.
Back country skiing is one of the most rewarding winter activities one can partake in around Ouray during the winter months. Skinning up mountains, catching beautiful sunrises, working hard for your uncrowded, glorious, sometimes untracked turns rewards you with a great feeling of accomplishment. It’s also a lot cheaper than a day pass to any ski resort in Colorado! It’s definitely not for the weary or unenergetic, though. Back country touring takes a lot of patience, wits, and tenacity. Being captured by an avalanche when snow pack conditions are poor is a real threat to you and your fellow partners. But with the right equipment, knowledge, and drive, anyone can fulfill their back country ski dreams! Trust this girl who was grew up in the prairie lands of Kansas!
Ever wonder to yourself how you can help all of the dogs and cats and other animals waiting in shelters for their forever home? Did you ever wonder how to do so while having a fantastic time? Well, Second Chance Humane Society has made this possible!
Snowshoeing in the San Juan Mountains - An Adventure Not to be Missed!
For the past few days, all of Colorado has been enjoying healthy snowfall. CDOT has been working non-stop, maintaining our roads, and providing access to a variety of winter activities.
The Ouray Ice Park is easily preparing for the Annual Ice Fest at the end of December, but the number of outdoor experiences to be had are limitless in the winter wonderland we call home.
Cross country ski trails beckon, offering miles of serene landscapes to explore. Snow shoeing is yet another means to the back country, allowing adventurers access to a world not many get to experience...
Southwest Colorado Waterfalls
Waterfall viewing in the late Spring and early Summer is delightful. The thunderous roar of the water as it falls back to the ground amazes even the coolest teenager. Ouray is home to three great year round falls that should not be missed, but, the springtime runoff proves exceptionally awe inspiring.
The Ouray Museum is a glorious treasure filled to the brim with artifacts from earlier times. All three floors of the former St. Joseph's Miner's Hospital are filled with artifacts, clothing, domestic appliances, books, newspaper articles, medical equipment, pictures, displays, and small diaramas seeking to explain the history of Southwest Colorado and specifically of Ouray and Ridgway.
